Happy II-I-II Newsletter Tuesday Wednesday

Here are III things, I thing, and II other things for this week…

3 absolutely random things from me

I. In high school when I was a junior, we had a really good running back. He wasn’t that tall, but he was a total stud: fast and a tackle breaker, and smart?

I remember watching one of his runs for like 75 yards or something (the electricity!!! a 75 yard wrun in high school?!?!?! He should go pro!!!) and literally, I think back to this run at least… a couple times a year.

He had this guy on his back hip who was really close and kept lunging to tackle him, but every time he got close enough, our guy would give just the lightest pushes with his wrist on the guys helmet. The guy tried again and he just whisked him away – not really breaking stride, or turning back to push, just… whismy “away with you” energy.

The defender kept getting more and more unbalanced and eventually fell over. Idk why that was incredible to me, or why the image stuck so hard, but it did, and now I want to apply that to everything. If you’ve got some lumbering 18 yr old of a thought or feeling or stressor trying to tackle you… first of all, sorry to hear that. But also don’t slow down, don’t stop sprinting!!!! Give it a little whimsical: “nah” and keep going.

II.

What a delight that Noah Kahan released The Great Divide so we could listen… at the end of august. A summer treat! Also, do we think he’s just doing all the seasons. Is stick season winter or fall… Is spring next.

III.

I tried to make coffee out in the wild. On the wild mile, which, in all of august is covered by the most beautiful flowers, it’s amazing. There’s literally, like… a million of them. It’s magical. But yeah… the process of actually making coffee was less magical.
